Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs
If an officer believes there is an impairment in driving, they may investigate for Drug-DUI. There are sobriety tests that may be done to try and determine if you are under the influence of drugs. The officer may also ask for a blood sample to test for drugs.
It is important to know what the penalties are that come with a Drug-DUI. Although the penalties do not increase with a higher blood reading like with alcohol, drug-DUI’s carry the same penalties. If convicted you could still be facing high court costs, mandatory jail time, license suspension, and more. Like with alcohol DUI’s, these penalties will get more severe with subsequent convictions.
According to Washington Department of Licensing, driving under the influence (DUI) refers to operating a motor vehicle while affected by alcohol, drugs, or both. This applies to both legal and illegal drugs, including prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs.
