TYPES OF DRIVER’S LICENSE SUSPENSIONS

FAILURE TO APPEAR IN COURT OR PAY TICKETS (FTA)

Why was your license suspended or revoked?
Your license was suspended or revoked because you didn’t pay a ticket or appear in court as required.

How long will your license be suspended or revoked?
Until you pay the fine or comply with the requirement to appear in court.

Can you get a restricted license?
You may be eligible for an Occupational/Restricted License (ORL).

RECKLESS DRIVING

Why was your license suspended?
If you were in court and convicted or received a diversion agreement for reckless driving, the court sends DOL the conviction information so DOL can update your driving record to show that your license is suspended. When your suspension is cleared it will be taken off your driving record.

How long will your license be suspended?
30 days.

Can you get a restricted license?
Yes. You may get an Occupational Restricted License (ORL), as long as you don’t have any other suspensions that would prevent DOL from issuing one.

HIT AND RUN (OF AN OCCUPIED VEHICLE)

Why was your license revoked?
You were convicted in court and they submitted the conviction information to DOL to be recorded on your driving record.

How long will my license be revoked?
1 year.

Can you get a restricted license?
Yes, you may apply for an Occupational Restricted License (ORL) as long as you have no other suspensions on your driving record that would prevent DOL from issuing you the ORL.

DRIVING WHILE A LICENSE IS REVOKED (FIRST DEGREE)

Why was your license revoked?
 You were convicted of 3 offenses requiring mandatory suspension or revocation of a driver license, as listed in RCW 46.65.020(1).
or
 You were found to have committed or were convicted of 20 or more of the moving violations listed in WAC 308-104-160 within a 5-year period.

How long will your license be revoked?
A minimum of 1 year.

Can you get a restricted license?
No, you can’t be issued any type of driver license during this revocation.

DRIVING WHILE A LICENSE IS REVOKED (SECOND DEGREE)

Why did your license get revoked?
You were convicted of driving while your license was suspended in the second degree.

How long will my license be revoked?
A minimum of 1 year.

Can you get a restricted license?
You may be eligible for an Occupational/Restricted License (ORL) during this suspension.
